George Johnson is an award-winning communication and media relations professional who has spoken across the country on topics covering public relations, crisis and disaster communications, health and human services issues, faith-based matters, business development and more.

Thousands of his articles and tens of thousands of his photographs on higher education and health and human services matters have been published during his career.

  • Winner of the 2005 Ben Frizzell Award for exceptional public information services in crisis and disaster communications.
  • Honored as 2003 Humanitarian of the Year by the Oklahoma State Black Heritage Society.
  • Winner of numerous awards from chapters of the Public Relations Society of America and the International Association of Business Communicators.
  • Listed as one of the Outstanding Young Men in America.
  • Recognized by the Governor of Oklahoma as one of the top employees in Oklahoma public service.
  • Honored for his local Boy Scout troop committee leadership with the Last Frontier Council, Boy Scouts of America.

For six years, George has been executive producer and co-host the award winning Inside OKDHS, a television news magazine show that airs in Oklahoma via satellite to state employees.

George is strongly involved in his community. He serves on hospital and non-profit boards and is actively involved in community reinvestment team leadership for United Way of Central Oklahoma City.


George Earl Johnson, Jr.

George Earl Johnson, Jr. is President of GB Johnson, Inc., a business consulting and communication company, which focuses on moving people to THINK and take correct actions in business and in life.

Johnson brings four decades of higher education, government public affairs and business communications experience to the table.

  • He has served as Director of Public Relations and Director of Communications for 12 years, respectively, for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, a $1.6 billion state agency with nearly 8,000 employees and held other lead communications positions in the organization over a 25-year career.
  • Johnson served for nine years in teaching and executive positions at Rose State College, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, where he taught journalism and mass communications.
  • Johnson is a military veteran, having honorably served in the United States Air Force.
  • He is heavily involved in church and civic activities.
    Johnson has degrees in journalism, mass communications - public relations, with minors in human relations, the sciences and business.
  • He has extensive training in business leadership development.

Johnson has been married to Birdie L. Johnson, his wife, for 36 years and they have one adult son, George III, who is married and has two children.
